Greetings from Yellowstone National Park

We go to Yellowstone National Park every spring and fall to see the wildlife and the beautiful scenery. In recent years, many of the large male bison we see have no visible scrotum, similar to the bull that the drunk man was harassing. Why is that? Male bison used to have a very long visible scrotum, which since I grew up on a cattle ranch, I noticed is no longer the case. Is the park service doing something to the male bison to reduce the number of bison in the park? If not why is this weird condition occurring on so many male bison and is anyone concerned?

Sincerely,
Judy

Yellowstone National Park

America's first national park is named after the river that runs through it. Within the park's massive boundaries, visitors can find mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls and some of the most concentrated geothermal activity in the world. The park has 60% of the world’s geysers, as well as hot springs and mud pots. It is also home to diverse wildlife with the largest concentration of mammals in the Lower 48 states, including grizzly bears, wolves, bison and elk.

State(s): Idaho Montana, Wyoming,

Established: 1872

“They are one of the last places where the biodiversity of the ecosystem is somewhat protected, which is why I am wondering about the condition of the male bison. Thank you for caring for the animals and their habitat.”
