The national parks represent the nation at its best – but they’ve never been more at risk

Right now, everything we know and love about national parks is on the line. Park staff, wildlife, funding and history have all been targeted by Congress, the Department of Government Efficiency and the Department of the Interior.

The president’s extreme budget proposal would force more than 350 national parks to be shuttered. More than 24% of the National Park Service workforce has already been slashed. The administration is drawing up plans to open more lands for drilling, even on park boundaries. And there’s even an effort to outright remove lands from the National Park System.

Every one of the places in the National Park System is irreplaceable. And every one of these threats could change the National Park System forever. Taken together, they represent an historic attack on the places and stories that define our nation.

These are the places and stories we stand to lose if we don’t fight back.
