National Parks Conservation Association ("NPCA ," "we," or "us") respects the privacy of personal information. We want you to understand what information about you we may collect and how we may use, share and retain that information.

This Privacy Policy describes what information we may collect from you as a visitor to our website located at www.npca.org as well as other NPCA webpages that provide a link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, the “Sites”). The Policy also describes what personal information we may collect from or about you in other contexts, and explains how we may use and when we may share with others the information we collect about you either online or otherwise.

By visiting any of our Sites, you are confirming that you have read and that you understand and accept the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you have any objection to the practices described in this Privacy Policy, you should not use our Sites or otherwise provide your personal information to us.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes to our Privacy Policy will become effective upon posting of the updated Policy on the Sites. If the changes are material, we will place a notice on the home page of the www.npca.org Site. We encourage you to periodically review the posted version of the Privacy Policy to ensure you are familiar with its current terms.

Our Collection of Personal Information

We collect personal information when you choose to provide it to us, including your name, mailing address, email address, payment card information, and other information that you may choose to provide. For example, if you wish to join NPCA, become a member of NPCA, or make a contribution to NPCA, you will need to provide us with your name, email, and mailing address. If you create an account on our Sites, you will also need to provide a username and password for the account, which we will retain to protect your privacy. And if you wish to make an online payment or contribution, you will need to provide your payment processing information (e.g., debit or credit card number). Please note, however, that NPCA does not retain any debit or credit card information.

If you apply for a job with NPCA, we may collect any information you provide in your application, including, but not limited to, educational background, employment history, and references. If you prefer not to contribute online, contributions also may be made by printing out this PDF form and mailing it to Member Services, NPCA, 777 6th St., NW, Ste. 700, Washington, DC, 20001, or by calling 800-628-7275 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Thursday.

We may sometimes collect information about you from third parties with whom we work or through publicly available sources. Such trusted third parties may assist us in gathering contact information about individuals who may be interested in NPCA and its work, and such third parties might provide us with your email address and/or mailing address obtained through other sources. We may combine that information with other information we collect about you.

When you visit any of the Sites, we (or our service providers on our behalf) automatically collect some information about you or the device you use to access that Site, such as your IP address, information about the pages of the Site that you viewed, and for how long you viewed those pages. We gather this data using cookies, pixels and similar technologies so we can understand Site visitor needs and personalize their experience on the Site. Cookies are pieces of information that are stored on your computer to make visiting and using our website easier. Cookies generally help us improve your experience on the Sites. We do not share information collected through cookies with third parties (other than our service providers) without your consent (please see our cookie banner through which you may provide such consent.

Our Uses of Your Personal Information

As indicated above, we use the personal information we collect from individuals to enable them to become NPCA members, to receive information, products, or services from us, to donate to us, to facilitate the use of our Sites, and to apply to work with us. We may use your contact information to reach out to you with NPCA updates, including factors affecting certain national parks, and with invitations for you to become more active with NPCA. NPCA may also use this contact information to provide you, including by text message if you consent, with fundraising and marketing offers. Please contact us as described in the Your Choice and Contacting Us section below if you would like to opt out of such offers.

With respect to the cookies, pixels, and similar technologies on our Sites, we use those to measure how users interact with our Sites so that we can test and improve the Sites, and more generally our services and communications, so as to provide site visitors with a more relevant and meaningful experience.

Our Disclosure of Your Personal Information to Others

We use unaffiliated service providers to assist us both with the operation of the Sites and with other aspects of our business, such as payment process. As needed for them to provide such services, we may share with these service providers certain of your personal information or they may collect that directly from you when you use one or more of the Sites. For example, certain of our service providers may collect the following types of information about you when you use one or more of the Sites:

  • Device Information. Information about the device you use to visit the Site, including device identifiers, device type, and operating system, if your device settings allow it.
  • Payment Transaction Information. If you donate online, your payment card information is processed by our service providers, which provide us with limited information about your donation.
  • Site Usage Patterns. We use third parties to collect information about your interactions with our Sites. For example, NPCA uses Google Analytics to provide analytics services on our Sites. For more information about how Google Analytics collects and uses data when you use our Sites, visit www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/, and to opt out of Google Analytics, visit tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/.
  • Tracking Information and Online Interest-based Advertising. We may partner with trusted third parties that collect information through cookies, pixels and other technologies on our Sites as well as non-affiliated websites over time, in order to provide you with ads on non-affiliated platforms. Some of those ads may be interest-based ads, meaning that they are intended to be relevant to you based on the information these third parties collect about your use of our Sites and other websites or apps over time. NPCA adheres to the Digital Advertising Alliance (“DAA”) Self-Regulatory Principles in connection with this interest-based advertising activity. If you would like to opt out of interest-based advertising on your device by companies that participate in industry self-regulation, you can visit optout.aboutads.info or optout.networkadvertising.org. If you delete your cookies or use a different browser or mobile device, you will need to renew your opt-out choices exercised through the DAA tool. Note that electing to opt out will not stop advertising from appearing in your browser or applications. It may make the ads you see less relevant to your interests. Additionally, your browser may offer tools to limit the use of cookies or to delete cookies; however, if you use these tools, our website may not function as intended.

In addition to providing you with the services and information you request and as described above, we may use the personal information that you provide or that we otherwise collect for any lawful purpose.

With the exception of the affiliated National Parks Action Fund, we do not sell or rent our email list. We do, however, sometimes share our postal mailing list and email list with other nonprofit organizations and companies that we feel you may be interested in hearing from. If you do not want us to share your postal address and email with such third parties, please contact us as described in the Your Choices and Contacting Us section below.

In addition, we may share your personal information with unaffiliated third parties:

  • As part of a proposed or actual sale, merger, or acquisition, or other transfer of all or part of our assets including as part of a bankruptcy proceeding;
  • Pursuant to a subpoena, court order, governmental inquiry, or other legal process or as otherwise required by law, or as we deem necessary to protect our rights or the rights of third parties; or
  • With your consent or as otherwise disclosed at the time of data collection or sharing.

Our Site includes a section where visitors may submit a story for posting. Please be aware that the information you provide in these submitted stories may become available to the general public.

We may share information that has been de-identified or aggregated, or any other technical information that is not identifiable to you, without limitation.

Links to Other Sites

As a service to our visitors, we sometimes provide links to other websites. For example, we sometimes promote our corporate partners by including links to their websites and information about them on our Sites. A link does not denote an endorsement of those websites and NPCA is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites.

Our Sites may also include integrated social media tools or “plug-ins,” such as social networking tools offered by third parties. If you use these tools to share personal information or you otherwise interact with social media features on our Sites, those social media companies may collect information about you and may use and share such information in accordance with your account settings, including by sharing such information with the general public. Your interactions with third-party social media companies and the use of their features are governed by the privacy policies of the social media companies that provide those features. We encourage you to carefully read the privacy policies of any social media accounts you create and use.
