Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the country's most popular national park sites. It offers postcard-perfect views and plentiful wildlife.

State(s): North Carolina Tennessee,

Established: 1926

“They belong to the people and while there are so many threats to them, we must preserve them. Our children deserve them, and their children do also. The beauty is America. The experiences one can have is incredible and stay with you. These parks cal, you back time and again and each time they are more breathtaking. Hiking, climbing, waterfalls, wildlife, incredible plant life and just so much more . Families can enjoy their parks and create lifetime memories. The threats are real and continuous by those who would strip mine, clear cut and sell off OUR parks. This is America and it’s belongs to the people. It’s the few places that America's dwindling wildlife can be safe and flourish. They give me solace. I cannot get enough of our National Parks. We must preserve them. This park only has two Rangers to protect thousands of acres. We must volunteer if we can to help to maintain trails and help visitors get the information they need to enjoy . If I were younger I would make my career a park Ranger. I just can’t express enough how just being in this park soothes my soul. Gives me hope. And helps me to see why we must fight to protect them.”

National parks represent the best of America. Why do you care about protecting and preserving them? Tell us why parks matter to you!

Even before my family and I reached the Smokies, I was in awe of the scenery around me. Tennessee’s vibrant forests framed the road on either side, and we drove along a glimmering creek that threaded through the trees. Later, after hiking up to Clingmans Dome, we watched the fog…
