Greetings from Glacier National Park

I worked in Glacier Park for two summers, one at East Glacier and one at Many Glacier. One day at Many Glacier, the lodge nurse (Sue) and I decided to scale Grinnell Point, across Lake Josephine from the lodge. We chose separate paths, so I scrambled up the mountain alone. Around noon I thought I’d give up since I had to work that afternoon. I spotted a ridge ahead, and thought I’d stop there, eat, and head back.

As I approached the ridge, it kept receding from me, and suddenly I found myself on top of Grinnell Point! I could see over the continental divide past Lake McDonald, and to the east I could see the foothills and flatlands around 70 miles distant. To the north, there was a vast area of snow-covered peaks that I had not yet explored. It was awesome.

As I stood aghast at the beauty of the park, Sue rounded the summit. We had a great lunch admiring the view, then took separate paths back down. I got to work on time, sore, tired, and quite happy.

Sincerely,
Rod
