North Carolina Offshore Drilling Meeting

For the first time in decades, our coasts could be opened up to oil and gas leasing if the Department of Interior's draft leasing plan for federal waters goes into effect.

This plan threatens dozens of coastal parks, including North Carolina’s prized Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

The parks along U.S. coastlines protect unique marine environments, shelter our nation’s fisheries, support thousands of jobs and bring billions of dollars into our economy. They also keep alive important stories from our country’s past, like those shared at Cape Lookout National Seashore of the colonial port of Portsmouth Village. These places should be protected - not imperiled by spills that too often occur when we industrialize our oceans with oil and gas production.

It’s not too late to speak out against this plan. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is accepting comments on this draft leasing plan at a public meeting in Raleigh on February 26.

Join us in person to remind BOEM that the waters, wildlife and local economies of our coastal national parks are too valuable to be endangered by offshore drilling. Or, submit comments online.
