Greetings from Grand Teton National Park

In 1993, I returned to Ohio after living in Colorado for 10 years – my Dad got cancer and 1300 miles was just too far away. I took the scenic route; driving for several months and thousands of miles – as far north as the Arctic Circle in Alaska and east to Long Island, NY. I explored numerous national parks and my parents really enjoyed hearing about my travels. Dad traveled all over the US and the world for his job, but he didn’t see much of the great outdoors here at home.

In 2014, when Dad was 87, he commented that he’d like to take a train trip out west. I organized the trip for my two sisters and two of my nieces. The six of us took the train to Glacier NP, rented a car and toured Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. I was thrilled to show them all the amazing places I’d been. I particularly love this picture of us with the Tetons in the background. Dad is still getting around and we all frequently reminisce about what a wonderful trip that was.

Sincerely,
Tracy

Grand Teton National Park

This spectacular destination preserves a dramatic stretch of the Teton Range bordering the Snake River. One of the unusual features of these distinctive mountains is the absence of foothills, meaning that there are no smaller mountains blocking the view. The park also features glacier-carved lakes, a historic district of weathered buildings made by 19th century Mormon homesteaders, and an abundance of wildlife large and small, including nearly 1,000 bison that roam the grassy fields in herds.

State(s): Wyoming

Established: 1929

“Beautiful places, and those with historical significance, need to be preserved for future generations to enjoy and learn from.”
