Greetings from De Soto National Memorial

It is very important for the Parks to be preserved so young children and adults can enjoy the wild like and natural beauty of this nation. Very few of us live in a natural setting or interact with nature on a daily bases. I have spent many hours of peace hiking thru the near by area nature preserves. While they are not Nation Parks (none are really close to my home) the parks weather National or Local are all important for people to experience. Alot of my nature trips have been in the caves that have been commericalisted each one is different. I have been most of the caves along instate 81 and enjoyed all of them. This is just a taste of what parks mean to me. I will always be greatful for the experiences I have had in the parks.

Sincerely,
Carol Campbell

De Soto National Memorial

Hernando De Soto was one of the earliest European explorers of North America. His expedition landed on Florida’s west coast in 1539, and he led his men on a five-year, 4,000-mile odyssey across the Southeast into what is now Arkansas. The park preserves tales of the expedition, along with historic armor, weapons and other period items. Visitors can also experience four distinct ecosystems along the park's half-mile nature trail on the south shore of the Manatee River at the mouth of Tampa Bay.
