Recently, I had the humbling chance to visit and explore the Redwood National & State Park complex. It was a surreal landscape, the likes of which I have never encountered in my life. I am so grateful to the park staff for sharing their expertise, unabashedly nerding out over organisms like banana slugs and salamanders, and for the immense time and effort they put in to educate, maintain, advocate for, and preserve this truly sacred space in northern California. Thank you for all you do. In a time right now where federal leaders are exacerbating the challenges you face, I want you to know that my wife and I stand with you all and for you all. We are writing letters, calling our Congress representatives, and doing everything we can to uplift and celebrate the work you do. You are the best of us as a nation, and we are so grateful for your public service!
Sincerely,
Redwood National & State Parks
Redwood National and State Parks protect a primeval landscape where the world’s tallest living organisms, towering coast redwoods, thrive. Visitors can feel small as they stroll in the shadows of these enormous trees and explore rocky undeveloped beaches, fern studded canyons, open prairie, oak woodlands, and fog-filled river valleys. These diverse habitats support myriad wildlife and plants, including several rare species.

“Wilderness, environmental education, and public lands for all are essential cornerstones that make our nation who we are. The histories and conflicting legacies our park service sites preserve instruct us on our inner good and contrasting evil, particularly with regards to settler colonialism. I appreciate the honesty and integrity of how park sites tell our nation's story, as well as the extraordinary ecosystems you seek to study, inform us about, and defend. ”
