Greetings from Canyonlands National Park

In August of 2023, my boyfriend and I visited Canyonlands National Park on a whim. No planning, we didn’t even know we would end up here until we were on our way. We packed for a weekend of camping to celebrate my birthday and hit the road! Originally we figured we were going to find a place in the mountains of Colorado to set up camp, but when we saw the cloudy forecast, we decided to start towards Utah instead. We arrived at the needles campground in Canyonlands NP and were in love with the campground we found. Rocks all around us and a beautiful sunset setting beyond the horizon. We quickly got out of the car and climbed up the rocks behind our campground with our cameras to capture the sunset. After it ended, we set up the tent and ate some dinner. As it got darker, the stars started to show, and little did we know what we were about to see. Apparently, there was a meteor shower on the night of August 12th, my birthday, and this was a perfect place to view it. We hadn’t known until the next morning that it was a meteor shower. We just thought we were experiencing a crazy amount of shooting stars! It was a perfect way to spend a birthday, and one I will never forget. I love national parks because of the scenery and history that they provide. It’s magical every visit. I have a massive desire to visit every park across the country and take in their beauty and all that they have to offer visitors.!

Sincerely,
Jaelyn

Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park preserves an immense desert wilderness sculpted by the Green and Colorado rivers and featuring hundreds of colorful canyons, mesas, buttes, fins, arches and spires. The Island in the Sky District is the most accessible and popular section of the park — a mesa with spectacular views of the surrounding canyons. The Needles is a vaster territory below the Island in the Sky where visitors can hike among the sandstone spires and breathtaking rocks.
