Greetings from Gates Of The Arctic National Park & Preserve

Beginning in the early 1970s, I became involved in efforts to set aside a part of the Brooks Range in Alaska as a new national park. I spent years exploring this wonderful wilderness by foot, dog team, floating and by light aircraft. I wanted to be a part of the process for making it a national park. In the mid 1970s, the National Park Service employed me to assist in the planning of Gates of the Arctic National Park. Our experiences are presented in the book, “Our Perfect Wild”, published by the Univ. of Alaska Press and Univ. of Chicago Press.

Sincerely,
Ray Bane

Gates Of The Arctic National Park & Preserve

“William Brown summarized the unique contribution of national parks in his book, "Islands of Hope". National parks are - and should be - a living reminder of the blessings nature has bestowed on our nation and the wonderful cultural heritage that must be honored and preserved.”
