Greetings from Dinosaur National Monument

It was after noon when I stopped at the Dinosaur National Monument Canyon Visitor Center in Colorado one day in 2022. I inquired with the ranger about one nice hike to do in the park, and he highly recommended Harper’s Corner Trail. Further, he added that the trailhead is quite far away from the visitor center (20 miles), and that I should go there without delay since the weather forecast had afternoon storms.

I took up the advice, and completed a memorable hike that afternoon. The views of the Green and Yampa rivers from the trail were mesmerizing. It was one of the most memorable hikes from start to finish, a total of about two miles. The constantly changing scenery of trees, canyons and rivers was a source for numerous memorable photos.

Sincerely,
Bill

Dinosaur National Monument

This park preserves a quarry rich with paleontological resources as well as expansive surrounding landscapes, including mountain ranges, steep canyons and wild river valleys. The Quarry Exhibit Hall displays more than 1,400 fossils from the late Jurassic period. Five sites on the western side of the park also preserve a collection of petroglyphs and pictographs from the Fremont people who lived in the region a thousand years ago. The Green River meets with its largest tributary, the Yampa River, in the heart of the park, helping to support more than 1,000 native plant and animal species throughout the area.
