Greetings from Independence National Historical Park

I served as a National Park Service Ranger as an Interpreter from 1980 to 1984. This was my first big deal job with training beginning a few weeks having graduated from art school in May 1980. Crazy job, wonderful job, irrational job, stimulating and insulting job, people of all backgrounds and colors job from throughout the planet job. One year into my wearing the uniform, on my first day in uniform at Independence Hall, an unauthorized intruder entered and forcing his way into the building assaulted me by pushing me to the floor of the Hall. He ran into the Assembly Room–for reference, the room on the back of the $2.00 bill. No one hurt and no damage to property. I was shown compassion and care and respect by fellow rangers from all three labor divisions–Interpretation, Housekeeping/Maintenance, and Protection for me doing my job in not leaving my station at the front door of the Hall. That to me is what I remember best about working at INHP. Funny thing–I can still recall the names and faces of many ranger professional colleagues. Today, I work very hard toward that future day when our Ship is righted back on course.

Sincerely,
Debra
