Forgotten Founders: The Hidden African Ancestry of Los Angeles

Come experience the Forgotten Founders: The Hidden African Ancestry of Los Angeles, an exhibit that celebrates the city’s earliest settlers and runs through the month of February--African American History Month--at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument.

Exhibit open through February 29, 2016

Tuesdays - Sundays: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

The exhibit is the latest NPCA Find Your Voice project, an initiative to educate, engage, and empower new national park advocates, and is the result of a partnership with El Pueblo, the Western National Parks Association, Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West, and Cal State University, Northridge.

The pieces in the exhibit were completely compiled and curated by students from Cal State Northridge’s History Department. And fittingly, the location of the exhibit is situated within the Rim of the Valley, a proposed addition to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. This expansion would enhance the protection of critical natural and cultural resources and is a key focus of NPCA’s work in Southern California.
