Utah Regional Haze Public Meeting

On Tuesday, January 26, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be in Salt Lake City to listen to you! This is your opportunity to directly ask decision-makers to clean up the coal plants polluting our region's national parks--for the sake of our health and our economy.

The EPA has proposed two plans for Utah to address air pollution from two of the state’s dirtiest coal plants: Rocky Mountain Power’s Hunter and Huntington facilities. This pollution affects air in eight of our treasured southwest national parks: Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Zion, Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

The challenge is that the first plan, the state’s proposal, is limited to “Business as Usual” while the second, the “Clean Parks” plan, would cut emissions from four units at Hunter and Huntington by 76%, the equivalent of removing up to 11 million cars from the road.

In 2014 and 2015, thousands of NPCA members asked the state of Utah to clean up these coal plants. Utah ignored us. Luckily, we have a second chance and the EPA needs to hear from you.

Please come, invite your friends, and speak up at the public hearing. Hearings are from 1 - 5 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m.
