Point Reyes Invasive Species Removal Day

Help NPS restore Point Reyes National Seashore on June 4!

In honor of California Invasive Species Action Week (June 1 - 9), the park’s Habitat Restoration program will hold a special volunteer work day on June 4.

Park Service staff will meet interested volunteers at 9:30 a.m. at Abbotts Lagoon trailhead before hiking about one mile to the dunes where the work will involve removing invasive veldt grass (Ehrharta erecta) and iceplant (Carpobrotus edulis).

The service activity will last until 2:30 p.m., with a break for lunch break and a chance to enjoy summer wildflowers and birds.

Tools and gloves will be provided. Please wear sturdy work clothes including closed-toe shoes, long pants and long sleeves. Bring extra layers, at least two liters of water, snacks and lunch.

RSVP to Ellen Hamingson at Ellen_Hamingson@nps.gov or 415.464.5196 by noon, Monday, June 3. [Feel free to check in on the status of this service event until 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4).
