Join us on May 15th to learn more about the amazing restoration story of the American bison.
One hundred years ago, bison or “buffalo” were teetering on the edge of extinction. Extensive hunting and habitat loss had reduced their numbers from the tens of millions to only a few hundred, including a federal herd of 24 animals within Yellowstone National Park.
Today, the native buffalo population is rebounding on protected lands in several Western states.
During this FREE event sponsored by Nature Valley, we’ll explore the bison’s “comeback story” in national parks like Yellowstone and discuss the much-anticipated next chapter of this species’ return to Colorado’s own Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
The evening’s panelists:
Bart Melton, Northern Rockies regional director
Vanessa Mazal, senior Colorado program manager
Fred Bunch, chief of resources, Great Sand Dunes Park & Preserve, NPS
Bryan F. Vigil, cultural resource specialist (ret.), Jicarilla Apache Tribe
