National Trails Day on the Susquehanna River

Please join us along the Susquehanna River on the morning of June 3rd as we celebrate National Trails Day by exploring the Captain John Smith National Historical Trail.

A trail rich with recreational, ecological and historical wonder, it’s America’s first national water trail.

The day will be full of on-river and land-based recreational activities for the whole family. There will be various learning stations along the trail for participants to experience the lower Susquehanna River and the abundant opportunities it affords to play, learn and explore.

The water trail celebrates the 17th century journeys of John Smith who, with his crew, mapped nearly 3,000 miles of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers and documented American Indian communities in the region. Along the banks of the Susquehanna, and on the site of the National Park Service’s first Visitor Contact Station of the water trail, lie lands of the Susquehannock Indian Tribe.

We hope you’ll join us on National Trails Day to experience this amazing history and the treasured resource that is the Captain John Smith Trail!
