May 6 Rally to Support Utah's National Monuments

Please join us for a monumental rally this Saturday at the Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City! Show Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke that you stand with Bears Ears National Monument and the majority of Utahns who support it.

On December 28, 2016, NPCA joined the Bears Ears Intertribal Coalition, local Utahns and supporters from around the country in celebrating the designation of Bears Ears National Monument. It was a celebration of protecting lands rich in cultural resources and spiritual significance to Native American communities, as well as scenic views and recreation opportunities in the iconic canyon country just steps from Canyonlands National Park, Natural Bridges National Monument and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

Unfortunately, Bears Ears – and now Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument – are both at risk. Earlier this year, Governor Herbert signed resolutions passed by the Utah State legislature calling on President Trump to rescind Bears Ears and reduce or modify the boundaries of Grand Staircase-Escalante. Since then, the entire Utah congressional delegation has aggressively worked to overturn monument designations.

Last week, President Trump signed an Executive Order requiring Secretary Zinke to review all national monuments that exceed 100,000 acres in size or that the Secretary deems were made without sufficient public involvement since 1996.

Secretary Zinke is coming to Utah next week. We need him to know that the actions of Utah lawmakers do not represent the majority of Utahns.

We need you this Saturday, May 6, to join our rally and show Secretary Zinke that Utah welcomes Bears Ears and all the benefits it will bring to our state!
