In partnership with the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, we invite you to join us for this Science Pub event: “Fifty Years of Paleontology at John Day,” on Tuesday, May 19, from 7 - 9 p.m. at McMenamin’s Kennedy School in Portland.
From saber-tooth cats to prehistoric horses, the ancient history at John Day Fossil Beds National Monument spans 40 million years and gives incredible clues to our past that inform the present. From inland seas to lava flows, the landscape has seen monumental change throughout its history. For the last 50 years, the National Park Service has led paleontological discoveries at the national monument located in the heart of Oregon’s high desert.
Bringing one of Oregon’s great national parks to you, learn about the incredible paleontological history preserved and studied at John Day Fossil Beds from its chief paleontologist, Nick Famoso, as the park celebrates its 50th anniversary. In addition, learn from the National Parks Conservation Association how you can join efforts to protect the greater John Day landscape so its remarkable history and natural wonders are preserved for generations to come.
