Join us to listen, learn and be inspired by the heartfelt words, visions and voices of Indigenous women leaders.
Wildlife in our national park waters are in a time of crisis with none more iconic than the orca of the Olympics. As the effects of climate change and other human impacts threatening habitat intensify, cuts to the National Park Service and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are limiting the ability to support and protect our Southern Resident orca. Now is the time to listen to the voices who have lived alongside the orca for time immemorial: leading women of our Indigenous communities.
We invite you to join us in-person for “A Majestic Matriarchy: Honoring the Southern Resident Orca,” on Saturday, June 14, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish in Seattle. This event is presented by Se’Si’Le, an Indigenous-led nonprofit in Washington State supported by a coalition of organizations including NPCA. An optional meal will precede the event.
As a part of the 19th annual Orca Action Month, this event will focus on Indigenous women to comfort, celebrate and bring attention to our Southern Resident orca. Native peoples have a deep affinity for our majestic Southern Resident orca who rely on the older females for stability, especially in times of crisis. Join us to listen, learn and be inspired by the heartfelt words, visions and voices of Indigenous women leaders.
