Telling the Stonewall Story, A National Park for Stonewall Speaker Series Event

Did you know that President Obama could designate the first-ever national monument recognizing LGBT civil rights?

Join the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) for an evening speaker series event: Telling America’s Story, Creating Equality in the National Park System. NPCA is teaming up with renowned African American lesbian feminist, Boston Public Radio’s “All Revved Up” commentator and syndicated columnist Rev. Irene Monroe to convene a discussion about the need to celebrate and recognize the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in the national park system.

Rev. Monroe and others will share their Stonewall stories and give voice to the riots that inspired LGBT communities throughout the country to organize in support of their civil rights. To honor this important part of our American history, NPCA, along with our many partner organizations, are calling for a national park for Stonewall, in New York City’s Greenwich Village.

Campion Ballroom is located within the Campion Tower at Seattle University. The entrance is on the north side of the Campion Tower, along 11th Avenue.

Rev. Monroe has been described in O, the Oprah Magazine, as “a phenomenal woman who has succeeded against all odds.”
