Naawéiyaa Tagaban is Kaagwaantaan from Ḵook Hít, Tʼáḵdeintaan Yádi, Wooshkeetaan Dachx̱án, of Áakʼw Ḵwáan Aaní. He holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Alaska Native Languages and Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Alaska Southeast, Juneau campus.
Naawéiyaa’s work is rooted in Indigenous advocacy, language revitalization, and environmental justice. He has contributed to efforts to preserve and strengthen the Lingít language and culture, with a focus on supporting Alaska Native communities and advancing cultural continuity. His work brings together data-driven analysis and community-based knowledge to address issues at the intersection of environmental protection, social equity, and Indigenous sovereignty.
He has held leadership and organizing roles across Indigenous-led initiatives, working to build community power and respond to the ongoing impacts of colonization and environmental degradation on Native lands and lifeways. His work reflects a broader commitment to the revitalization of Indigenous languages and traditions as foundational to the resilience and future of Native communities.
