Greetings from Glacier National Park

I was lucky enough to spend 4 summers from 1980-85 working in Glacier National Park, MT at the Many Glacier Hotel as the leader of the John Damberg Music Trio and I also was a boat captain on St. Mary’s Lake for the Glacier Park Boat Company in 1985. During these summers the million plus acres of the park became my backyard to explore and explore I did. I had many great adventures there. I thought I had the best job in the whole park playing in the band at night and exploring the park during the days. I hiked, camped, fished, and climbed some of the mountain peaks. Living in the middle of this park with all its land formations of the Lewis Overthrust and its abundant wildlife really impressed me and made me believe in preserving some of the most precious lands by supporting the National Park service and other non-profit foundations that strive to protect the parks. I really came to appreciate all that this park and the other national parks has to offer to people of all walks of life no matter what their socio-economic level is. As Ken Burns put it “The National Parks are America’s Best Idea!”

I currently live in Anchorage, AK where I still play music and teach percussion at UAA. Since 1986 I have visited and enjoyed Glacier Bay, the Gates of the Arctic, Denali, and Katmai National Parks. They are all amazing places that should be preserved for the enjoyment of all people.

So keep up the good work so we all my enjoy these fabulous places!

Sincerely,
John Damberg
