Greetings from Manassas National Battlefield Park

We visited this wonderful park in the summer of 2021; 3 of my sons, the oldest’s wife, and my granddaughter and I, and we witnessed an amazing re-enactment of the (first) battle there! We walked around the park, enjoying the fields and sites, as they’ve been preserved from that time period, then enjoyed a film afterwards, giving us a clear picture of the times. The Park staff were friendly and helpful. My youngest got the passport book from the gift shop and had it stamped. I took plenty of pictures! Lovely day, I couldn’t recommend this Park enough to others!

Sincerely,
Kimela

Manassas National Battlefield Park

Spectators and reporters competed for a good view of the first major battle between Union and Confederate soldiers at Manassas in July of 1861. Before the battle, most Americans thought the war would be one short skirmish; the deaths of 900 soldiers shocked the nation into realizing otherwise. Soldiers fought a second battle over the same fields at Manassas a year later that helped clear the way for Lee’s first invasion of the North. Today, visitors can take walking tours through the primary battlegrounds. There is also a 13-mile, self-guided driving tour of that stops at various locations, including Stone House Tavern, a structure that was used as a Union field hospital.

“Preserving and maintaining our National Parks is so important, for our generation and those to follow! It is something no other country enjoys, and attracts visitors from all over the world, as well as people here in the US. These natural sites preserve not only precious land and monuments, but the actual history of our country. They were established to prevent greedy, polluting business from erasing it for us all, and they must be kept for posterity!”

National parks represent the best of America. Why do you care about protecting and preserving them? Tell us why parks matter to you!
