My cousin, Ranger Doug Crispin, was my personal guide when I visited the North Rim of Grand Canyon in 2023. On one of our walks I spotted this canyon lichen on the rocks and was immediately drawn to the contrasting whites, grays, and ochres. They inspired me to weave a memory of the hike, first dyeing some angora sheep locks in rust to obtain the ochre color and echo the natural pigment of the lichen.
