Greetings from Petrified Forest National Park

This is my Mother’s park story. Here she is at age 90 having just visited Petrified Forest NP. Mother loved all the national parks and believed they were treasures that all US citizens should see. She loved her National Park passport book and enjoyed sharing her stories with anyone who would listen. Of course her all time favorite was Big Bend NP for its beauty, isolation, and she was a proud born and raised Texan. Mother passed away at age 93 in 2012. At Christmas 2011 she was celebrating at Big Bend. All in all she visited 28 national parks from Maine to Alaska, California to Tennessee, and all states in-between.

Sincerely,
Kaye Lindsey (Ruth Carroll's daughter)

Petrified Forest National Park

Petrified Forest is best known for its ancient trees that have crystallized over 225 million years into rainbow colors. The park also features fossils from huge 18-foot crocodile-like creatures known as Phytosaurs, as well as remnants from 13,000 years of human history, including the remains of villages, tools, and grinding stones. A 28-mile road runs through the park, offering a number of short hiking trails into the diverse landscape of wild grasslands and Painted Desert vistas and colorful badlands.
