Greetings from Yosemite National Park

Wilderness is something that is defined an individual’s experience. Wilderness is not one exact definition. Appreciating nature is something that is essential to the conservation and existence of wilderness. Not only do people need to understand that wilderness and nature can be the tree outside their house or Yosemite Park, they need to respect their surroundings. Through consciously noticing and appreciating different aspects of nature we have the chance to save it. Humans have altered nature for centuries and therefore have the responsibility to respect and protect it. An experience that helped make me realize how much we need to appreciate different aspects of wilderness is when I went on an AROTC field training event. During a night land navigation course I was submersed in nature and completely helpless. This experience made me realize that wilderness is something that should be cherished, no matter how big or small it is.

Sincerely,
Grace

In September 2018, we visited Yosemite and attended the night sky program: lying on the helipad, we were awestruck by the Milky Way and stars pointed out to us by the very knowledgeable ranger. It was a fantastic experience!
