Greetings from Congaree National Park

In 2018, I began a Junior Ranger journey with Grandson Hunter. As my Navy Son-in-law has ventured from assignments including Bremerton, WA, to Charleston, SC and now Yorktown, VA, we’ve traveled from coast to coast. We thoroughly enjoy visits to National Park venues. I now have (3) Junior Ranger Grandsons. On July 31st, 10-year-old Grandson Hunter and 7-year-old Asher earned their 51st and 27th Junior Ranger Badges. Not pictured is 3-year-old Grandson Jack who earned his 2nd Junior Ranger badge from the Deputy Ranger program at St. Augustine’s Castillo de San Marco National Monument. No words can explain the joy our family has experienced visiting, learning about, respecting, and protecting National Parks. We will continue to explore diverse venues and share what we have learned with others and help preserve these places for future generations.

Sincerely,
John

Congaree National Park

Wild and primeval, Congaree National Park is home to the largest old-growth floodplain forest in North America, with large, majestic bald cypress, water tupelo, cedar and loblolly pine trees. The Congaree and Wateree Rivers can flood ten times per year, replenishing soil nutrients that sustain the forest habitat. The park offers hiking and canoe trails, primitive camping, and excellent opportunities to see barred owls and other wildlife.

“We value the positive experiences that National Park venues have provided for our family. We are grateful for life experiences and desire to support a "big deal" for our family.”

On a circuitous drive from OH to FL in Oct 2023, I took a side trip to Congaree NP for a day of hiking. Congaree is one of the less visited parks and I got there fairly early, so really enjoyed the scarcity of other hikers. I did the boardwalk…

  • Greetings from Yosemite National Park

I travel to, and paint the US National Parks. I am passionate about conservation in “the People’s” Parks. I’ll be a guest painting teacher in Yosemite where I hope to share shifting color palettes of the Park depending on time of day, weather, and season.

  • Greetings from Bandelier National Monument

As an elementary school kid in Santa Fe we often visited Bandelier on field trips. The feeling of being in such a beautiful canyon was like being in an oasis. It is a very good memory of that particular place,
