Acadia is perhaps my earliest memory of the thrill of experiencing one of our national parks. As a child standing near the earth shaking sound and splash of Thunder Hole was so awesome! At one point during our visit, my mother, always the adventurer when it came to exotic foods had us collect snails and we bravely ate them from a pot of boiling water collected from the sea, extracting them from their shells with safety pins. Later on in life, Ive had the immense pleasure of visiting many other national parks. Highlights include; coyotes howling in the Zion canyons as we slept in our tents, Yellowstone which I dubbed “Nature’s Disneyland”, imagining the NASA astronauts clamoring over the volcanic debris of Crater’s of the Moon as they prepared for the moonwalk and so many, many more!
Sincerely,
Acadia National Park
