I visited Yosemite for the first time on a road trip from California to Oregon with my family in the early 2000s. I was really excited about the junior ranger programs. I don’t remember who the ranger was at Yosemite (or any of the ones I met to be honest), but I do remember how they made me feel. Like I belonged and I had a future in the outdoors. It was the start of my love for the outdoors and I finally understood why we need to protect these wild places. I got my BA in environmental studies, and now I am an outdoor educator. I take kids on hikes and teach them about local flora and fauna while they play in local city parks. Thank you rangers, for helping foster my love of the outdoors.
Sincerely,
Yosemite National Park
