I brought a troop of Girl Scouts to the monthly sea chantey singalong, ages 10-12. We had 15 girls with us; 12 never came back, but 3 never left. The three girls and I became volunteers. I worked as both a volunteer and a contractor for 15 years, leading pier walks, doing hands-on work on the ships, working in the Maritime Library and assisting with events. My daughter became a Sea Scout, and I improved my sailing skills on boats made in the Small Boat Shop. I love those ships! Chanteyranger Peter Kasin, now retired, changed both our lives by encouraging us to sing. My social life has become largely song circles, I still attend most of the chantey sings, and my daughter sings at open mikes around the Bay Area. Thanks, Peter!
Sincerely,
