Greetings from Point Reyes National Seashore

I can’t isolate one favorite ..my father, a school teacher in Califonia having moved from New Hampshire, a wife from Tennessee and 4 young children would drive across the USA in the early 1960’s with a National Park Pass (in the days with no reservations needed) and tent camped our way to visit relatives on the east coast and then the south on the way back. Gasoline was 0.39 a gallon! At the parks, we enjoyed the evening ranger run singalongs, campfire and talks. To this day, these memories of our beautiful country and the wonders of nature remain part of me. Campfires and marshmallows, washing dinner dishes in a pan of water. Coleman lanterns and cookstove and ice chest. The deer walking by the tent at dusk. The rivers, the lakes, the mountains, the coastlines and deserts. Trips three months long, every several years of my youth. I wouldn’t trade the experiences for anything. Thank you to our devoted Park Rangers who love our earth as I was taught to cherish and respect.

Sincerely,
JULIE

Point Reyes National Seashore

This seashore, established in 1962, is the only national seashore on the West Coast. It features windswept beaches, coastal cliffs and headlands, marine terraces, coastal uplands, salt marshes, estuaries, and coniferous forests. Located on the Point Reyes Peninsula, 40 miles northwest of San Francisco, the park encompasses about 71,070 acres, stretched across more than 80 miles of undeveloped coastline. Within the park, 32,730 acres are designated wilderness or potential wilderness, constituting one of the most accessible wilderness areas in the country, and the only marine wilderness (Drakes Estero) on the West Coast south of Alaska. The park harbors an astonishingly rich array of wildlife species, some found nowhere else on Earth.
