Greetings from Glacier National Park

Back in 1987 my sister, her husband and I decided that we would visit Yellowstone and Glacier parks. Yellowstone was spectacular (of course) but Glacier was beyond!! At that time we were young and more fit and decided we would hike to Sperry Chalet. We spent the night at Lake McDonald Lodge and got up early, packed water and apples and started the hike. About the time we got above the tree line, a thunder/lightning storm began. We were prepared w/plastic bags and continued the hike. By the time we walked into the Chalet, we were exhausted and felt so accomplished, we figured everyone in the Chalet cafeteria should stand up and applaud. They didn’t of course, just said ‘cool, grab a plate.’ The highlight came early the next morning, when sitting on the front porch w/coffee, a couple of mountain goats came up and greeted us. I have paper photos (cell phones weren’t around then) but the memory is clear in my brain. After we left that area, we spent nights in the other lodges in the park. I should also mention the Going to the Sun road - amazing.

Sincerely,
Margaret

Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park preserves more than a million acres of forests, alpine meadows and lakes with habitat for a wide variety of plant and animal life.

State(s): Montana

Established: 1910

“Because I've been to 20 or so of them and always leave wanting to go to the others. They are all beautiful pieces of nature that should never be touched. But I often fear that trump will do what he can to destroy them. Driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway, I see houses that are WAY TOO CLOSE to the parkway and somewhat ruin the view. That makes me sad.”
