Greetings from Great Smoky Mountains National Park

My sister and I meet in North Carolina once a month to hike a trail and catch up. One of our favorite trails is the Cataloochee Divide. We have only hiked part of it but plan to hike the entire route next month. We meet a lot of people from various places on our hikes. Last year, we were lucky enough to meet the superintendent of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park - Cassius Cash. He was kind enough to let us take a photo with him.

Sincerely,
Nancy

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the country's most popular national park sites. It offers postcard-perfect views and plentiful wildlife.

State(s): North Carolina Tennessee,

Established: 1926

“We love the peacefulness of a hike. Easy ones are nice but a challenge is more fun. We firmly believe “Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints.” We are grooming young hikers. We hope the parks will be preserved for future generations so they may hike in our footsteps. ”

A Park Ranger here not only told us all about the synchronized fireflies, but also how to secure a campsite 6 months in advance in order to have the best chance of witnessing their rituals. It was truly an amazing experience that we would otherwise have not known about.
