Rockets over Cumberland Island National Seashore? Speak out April 11 & 12

Camden County would like to build a spaceport and launch commercial rockets over this beautiful, wild seashore. Attend the meeting & speak out to protect this island.

Cumberland Island National Seashore is a crown jewel on the Atlantic Coast. For those seeking an off-the-beaten path experience, the island boasts nearly 20 miles of natural unspoiled beach, marsh and maritime forest and acres of precious coastal wilderness. Here, where human history predates the birth of our nation, today’s visitors find native plants and animals, shorebirds, and fish nurseries. They experience natural sounds and deep, dark skies. To get to Cumberland, you must make the effort, but for the 60,000 visitors a year who do, it’s the trip of a lifetime.

Unfortunately, all of what makes this seashore a treasure is at risk.

Camden County commissioners have asked the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to allow them to build a spaceport to launch commercial rockets over the seashore. If allowed, NPCA is concerned for the health of Cumberland’s unique resources, the safety of the visitors, residents and wildlife on the island, and the impact of rocket fuel contaminants.

The FAA has prepared a draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) in response to the Camden County Commission’s application for authorization to build this spaceport.

Come out to this public meeting, ask the FAA questions about this plan and express your concerns about a spaceport and rocket launches over Cumberland Island.
