Wyoming Game and Fish public meetings on grizzly bear management

Grand Teton and Yellowstone grizzly bears need your help. Join NPCA in telling the State of Wyoming that these iconic national park bears must not fall victim to shortsighted management plans, which could include hunting. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is holding a series of public meetings to hear how you think grizzly bears should be managed.

We believe that the decision to remove these grizzly bears from the Endangered Species List was a rushed process that failed to address significant threats to Yellowstone and Grand Teton’s iconic grizzlies. NPCA and other organizations are challenging this decision in court. As such, we do not believe that grizzly bear management decisions should be made before the lawsuit is resolved.

Many grizzly bears that make their homes in Yellowstone and Grand Teton also travel outside of park borders. If Wyoming moves forward with hunting along the borders of the parks, these bears could be targeted. Killing these park bears would damage the ecological core of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Some points to consider raising include:

  • There is no need for Wyoming to move so quickly to advance a hunting plan – especially since the delisting rule is being challenged in court.
  • Hunting should not occur on the borders of Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks or the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Parkway.
  • Hunting should not be allowed on private and state-owned lands within Grand Teton National Park.
  • Hunting should not be allowed in the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Parkway, a key ecological connector between Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

Please join us for the important meetings.
