Mason (he/him) grew up in Reno, Nevada where he was surrounded by public lands from the Great Basin to Lake Tahoe regions. His passion for protecting outdoor spaces grew from a love for trail running and all types of skiing. Whether it was camping out in the Black Rock Desert, or sitting on the beach in Lake Tahoe, he grew to love the diverse landscapes of Nevada.
Mason has a BA from Trinity College, CT in Public Policy & Philosophy. After college Mason dove into public lands advocacy at the American Alpine Club in Colorado. He then served as an AmeriCorps service member in the rural town of Crestone, Colorado where he worked with underserved youth and connected them with outdoor places. Afterwards, he moved to Telluride where he worked for a small environmental advocacy organization and led campaigns to protect the Dolores and San Miguel Rivers, expand wilderness protections in the San Juan Mountains, and increase bilingual resources and access to public lands. In a small organization of two, Mason was able to connect deeply with grassroots environmental action to create meaningful change. Mason also pursued his passion for local community action, serving as the Mayor of the Town of Ophir and as the director of a local trail running race series.
Mason is excited to be part of NPCA and the California Desert Program and particularly interested in connecting with the diverse communities in the Mojave Desert.
