Jenna Fischer is a Content Strategist for United Way of Salt Lake, working to improve education opportunities and basic needs access for all Utahns. She is passionate about harnessing the power of storytelling as a tool for social and environmental justice.

Jenna grew up in northern Colorado and developed a love of the outdoors while hiking and camping in the Rocky Mountains. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Colorado State University before moving to Salt Lake City in 2020 where she completed her master’s degree in the Environmental Humanities program at the University of Utah. During her time in graduate school, Jenna also served as an intern for the Southwest Regional Office of NPCA. Informed by her experiences as an Asian American woman recreating in the outdoors, she conducted research related to equity and inclusion in national park visitation management.

After finishing her master’s, Jenna spent six months completing a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)—a 2,650-mile trail that spans from the US-Mexico border through California, Oregon and Washington, to the US-Canada border. Hiking the PCT enabled Jenna to experience some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes (the trail passes through seven national parks!) and reinforced her passion for protecting them through environmental advocacy.

As a member of NPCA’s Next Generation Advisory Council, Jenna hopes to continue working to make public lands more inclusive and accessible for all people. She believes that stories have the power to build connections between people and place, and hopes to use her writing and communications background to tell stories that compel policymakers and general audiences to support the conservation of national parks so they can continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.
