Public Meetings for the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Draft Management Plans

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is rushing plans that threaten the lands within and surrounding Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Your voice is needed now more than ever!

Shortly after Grand Staircase-Escalante was illegally reduced, the BLM released management plans for the three smaller monument units and the lands cut out of the original monument. From encroaching oil and gas development to increased off-road vehicle use in sensitive areas, the plans would forever harm this irreplaceable landscape. BLM is hosting public meetings in southern Utah that will give public lands advocates a chance to ask tough questions and provide comments to defend Grand Staircase-Escalante and adjacent national parks.

The BLM needs to hear from advocates like you!

While we continue to fight for the full protection of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument as it was originally intended, we must take every opportunity to remind the BLM that millions of people like you care about the protection of the entire Grand Staircase-Escalante landscape.

Event Details

  • Monday, October 15, 2018, 4 - 7 p.m., Escalante High School, 70 N 1 W, Escalante, UT.

  • Tuesday, October 16, 2018, 4 - 7 p.m., Kanab Elementary School, 41 W 100 N, Kanab, UT.

RSVP: If you plan to attend a meeting, please contact me at cmacnulty@npca.org or 801.521.0785.

I hope you will attend to let the BLM know that their preferred plan to open the larger Grand Staircase-Escalante landscape adjacent to Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area to mining, drilling and other incompatible uses is unacceptable.

If you can’t attend a meeting, you can still be a voice for Grand Staircase-Escalante by submitting your public comment online! Tell the BLM to keep protections in place for the cultural, natural and paleontological sites within the original monument boundaries.

Thank you for continuing to be a voice for Grand Staircase-Escalante, our national parks and all public lands!
