NPCA and our state-based conservation partners are hosting several events in the coming weeks to defend the roadless rule and our national forests.
Did you know healthy, roadless national forests benefit national parks, larger ecosystems and the people and wildlife who enjoy them? For more than 100 years, NPCA has been the fearless and outspoken defenders of our national parks, and to do so includes the public lands and waters surrounding them. This includes our national forest lands too.
Right now, the Trump administration is moving to eliminate the roadless rule, a landmark conservation safeguard that protects 45 million acres of national forests, including nearly 300,000 acres in New England. An NPCA analysis found that of the approximately 45 million acres of designated roadless areas in national forests, nearly 30% (17.5 million acres) are within 30 miles of national park lands.
The Appalachian National Scenic Trail crosses through several of these roadless areas and supports recreation opportunities from Maine to Georgia. NPCA and our state-based conservation partners are hosting several events in the coming weeks to defend the roadless rule and our national forests. Details for each event can be found below.
