Kings Canyon National Park is Sequoia National Park’s sister park in California. Kings Canyon features the graceful peaks of the Sierra Crest and is the deepest canyon in the United States. The Kings Canyon, cut out of granite, was carved by glaciers and is a breathtaking site. The Kings River that flows through the gorge is wild and dangerous. Enjoy the majestic views of the park as you hike, horseback ride, or drive along vistas. The remote peaks of the Sierra Crest are only accessible by foot or horse trails, but if you make the trek, the raw beauty of the landscape will be a rich reward.

Also check out the General Grant Grove area of the park, several groves of Sequoias that includes Redwood Mountain Grove, the largest natural Giant Sequoia grove in the world!

A trip to this area of California brings you to two national parks—both Sequoia and Kings Canyon—with boundless opportunities for outdoor recreation and some of the most gorgeous scenery in the country.

It is remarkable that over the decades where many tourist attractions have become increasingly crowded, Kings Canyon somehow remains a relatively treasured secret. Untouched natural beauty and spacious campsites are make for an ideal vacation getaway, affording the fullest in appreciation of nature. It has been part of my family for over 50 years and becomes more sacred with time.

Kings Canyon has kept some of the rough and wild aspects that Sequoia has lost to the crowds, somehow. Spectacular views, knowledgeable rangers are making this under-valued park a great destination. A bit mor interpretive trails could help making Kings Canyon more appealing, but do we really want to see all the summer traffic come by?
