National Parks Group Voices Support for North Fork Watershed Protection Act

Statement by Michael Jamison NPCA Crown of the Continent Program Manager

In response to today’s hearing by the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, NPCA Crown of the Continent Program Manager Michael Jamison released the following statement in support of the North Fork Watershed Protection Act (S.B. 233), which was introduced by Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) and Sen. John Tester (D-MT) and was a leading focus at the hearing.

“Montanans cherish Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, which is not only a priceless ecological treasure but also a tremendous economic asset both to the region and to the state as a whole. Senators Baucus and Tester have been great champions of Glacier and the Flathead Valley. And, thanks to their leadership, the North Fork Watershed Protection Act represents a critical step toward ensuring a robust future for our rivers and downstream communities. The measure enjoys such tremendous local support precisely because it protects the qualities we value most – our national parks, clean waters, and rural heritage.”
