National Climate Change Poll

A new poll by the National Parks Conservation Association found that national parks offer physical and political solutions for addressing climate change.

88%
of Americans say climate change is negatively impacting national parks

The national polling aimed to examine Americans’ awareness of climate change impacts on national parks and how their level of awareness may influence their support to reduce these effects. It also aimed to better understand public perceptions of parks as solutions for addressing climate impacts.

Methodology

The NPCA poll was conducted online by The Harris Poll among 2,064 adults, ages 18 and older, between January 18-20, 2022. Results were weighted for age within gender, region, race, income, education, and size of household to align them with their actual proportions in the population.

Key Findings

The national poll found that a majority of Americans, nearly 9 out of 10 (88%), say climate change is negatively impacting national parks. There is an exceptionally strong bipartisan majority that see parks as part of the solution to address climate change. And most Americans, regardless of political party, would be more likely to support a representative who supported a bill that was designed to reduce the impact of climate change on national parks.
