DAY 1: SAN JOSE; HALF-DAY WHITEWATER RAFTING AND EL SILENCIO LODGE: The journey begins with a morning briefing over breakfast in San José, where we meet our guide and fellow travelers. After breakfast, we travel north, where we board a raft to ride the waves on a Class II and III river adventure down the Rio Sarapiquí. Back on dry land, we make our way to our accommodations in the heart of the cloud forest. We’ll spend the afternoon relaxing and getting to know our remarkable surroundings, taking in the amazing sights, smells, and sounds. This evening, we’ll be treated to a delicious, fresh, farm-to-table dinner at the lodge.
DAY 2: ZIP-LINING, LOS BAJOS VILLAGE: After breakfast, we’ll be off to a zipline adventure that takes us cruising over the 500- acre private El Silencia reserve and through the cloud forest canopy. After lunch, we visit the Los Bajos Cultural Center, then, take a “micro-safari” through the private garden of an orchid enthusiast.
DAY 3: FLIGHT TO OSA PENINSULA AND BOSQUE DEL CABO RAIN FOREST LODGE: After another hearty breakfast, we take a scenic flight to Puerto Jimenez and the Osa Peninsula. Upon landing, we’ll board a boat to cruise through the calm waters of the Golfo Dulce. After cruising, we’ll pull up to our hotel, situated on the southern tip of the peninsula at Cabo Matapalo. The rest of the day is spent exploring the grounds and trails that lead from the hotel through the forest to hidden pools and waterfalls, always keeping our eyes peeled for monkeys and scarlet macaws. This evening over a delicious dinner, we’ll rejoice in our beautiful tip-of-the-peninsula location.
DAY 4: MORNING ANIMAL SANCTUARY AND BOTANICAL GARDEN, AFTERNOON OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES: A wonderful day is in store! We travel through the gulf by boat in the quiet early morning to our first stop, the Osa Wildlife Sanctuary. Next, we’ll cruise to the local botanical garden, Casa Orquideas, where we’ll tour a beautifully landscaped tropical garden with hundreds of species of ornamental and edible plants. The rest of the day will be spent at the hotel, with opportunities to relax, enjoy the property, or head further afield. There are a number of a la carte excursions offered by the hotel that you can consider, such as hiking, surfing, or dolphin watching.
DAY 5: MORNING KAYAKING AND SNORKELING, AFTERNOON OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES LIKE DOLPHIN WATCHING, KAYAKING, OR SPA SERVICES: This morning, we’ll take to the water on a kayak and snorkel outing. After a brief safety talk and some instruction, we’ll head to our put-in and glide through the calm, wildlife-rich waters of a mangrove forest. After a picnic lunch, we’ll paddle to a snorkel site where we don a mask and fins, opening ourselves up to another world of wildlife. Returning to the lodge, we have time to relax before enjoying our final dinner on the Osa Peninsula.
DAY 6: FLIGHT TO SAN JOSE, CITY TOUR: We leave the Osa Peninsula this morning, returning to Puerto Jimenez by land to catch our flight back to San Jose. Our last night is spent at a hotel known for its beautiful grounds and flowering gardens. We’ll toast – Pura Vida! – to the wildlife, adventure, wonderful people, lush landscape, beautiful lodges, and a full and rich experience
