Schedule Highlights:

DAY 1: ST. GEORGE, UT, KOLOB CANYONS, CEDAR BREAKS, CAPITOL REEF: Your guide picks you up in St. George and you’re off ! First stop, Kolob Canyons, an isolated section of Zion National Park. The sweeping vistas of canyon country are an impressive introduction to the landscape. Next up, a short hike in Cedar Breaks National Monument. You arrive in the little town of Torrey, Utah, in the afternoon and check into your accommodations. What’ll it be for you: teepee, cabin, or Conestoga wagon?

DAY 2: CAPITOL REEF: You have a full day to hike and explore in this extraordinary park with its striking layers of golden sandstone, red canyons, and eroded rock formations. The park also has very interesting human history, as evidenced in rock art and historic orchards. Options for today’s hikes include Cassidy Arch, Chimney Rock, and Frying Pan Trails. All offer the chance to really get into the landscape on fun trails. Your guide shows you how to watch for the cairns that mark trails when they cross slickrock. Relax at the fire pit tonight to make s’mores and watch the stars come out.

DAY 3: CAPITOL REEF: Rise and shine for this morning’s 4-hour jeep safari, bouncing down a dirt road deep into the Cathedral Valley. Your safari guide shares stories explaining the geology, biology, and history of the area. Have your camera ready when you get to the main destination, the Temple of the Sun and Temple of the Moon. After lunch, head back out for more hiking, or you can opt to relax at the resort. (There’s a pool!)

Day 4: GRAND STAIRCASE-ESCALANTE AND BRYCE CANYON: Today’s drive from Capitol Reef to Bryce Canyon National Park is about two hours. Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is on the way, so you take advantage of the opportunity to hike and explore this cool, lightly visited landscape. Arrive in Bryce in the afternoon, probably in time to walk along the rim for your first view of this astonishing park.

DAY 5: BRYCE CANYON: Get your legs limbered up on a morning hike, then meet your horse this afternoon and hit the trail for a fun 2-hour ride. Local wranglers tell stories about Bryce Canyon’s hoodoos and history. Butch Cassidy and other outlaws rode this country in the 1890s. Your horse takes you down into Bryce Canyon and back up to the rim, winding through the surreal rock formations.

DAY 6: LAS VEGAS FOR DEPARTURES HOME: Gather up after breakfast and head for the Las Vegas airport. Okay, now everyone can turn their phones back on…
