• Park Biscayne National Park Located just a few miles from the city of Miami, Biscayne is the largest marine park in the National Park System and preserves the diverse marine environment where the Atlantic Ocean meets Biscayne Bay. The park features a variety of plant and animal life both above and below the water's surface, including the longest stretch of mangrove forest remaining on Florida's east coast and part of the only living tropical coral reef system in the continental United States.

• Park Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument In the 1960s, Birmingham, Alabama, was one of the most segregated places in the United States. In 1963, civil rights leaders Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. organized nonviolent protests in the city to take a stand against race-based injustice. Day after day, hundreds of marchers took to the streets, including hundreds of school-aged youth. These nonviolent protesters suffered brutal mistreatment at the hands of police and other city officials, gaining national attention and eventually winning major concessions in the fight for equal rights.

• Report Center for State of the Parks: Big Hole National Battlefield Current overall conditions of Big Hole National Battlefield’s known cultural and natural resources rated “fair” scores of 70 and 74, respectively. This report contains descriptions of park resources and summaries of resource conditions.
• Report Center for State of the Parks: Gateway National Recreation Area Using NPCA’s Center for State of the Parks comprehensive methodology, current overall conditions of Gateway’s known natural resources scored 53 out of 100, which is a “poor” rating. Overall conditions of the park’s known cultural resources scored 46 out of a possible 100, indicating “poor” conditions.

• Park Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area This recreation area straddles the northern Wyoming and southern Montana borders, preserving approximately 68,000 acres between the Pryor and Bighorn mountain ranges. The park was established in 1966 following the construction of the Yellowtail Dam by the Bureau of Reclamation to preserve the area's diverse landscape, including the spectacular Bighorn Canyon and Bighorn Lake.

• Park Bluestone National Scenic River This scenic river is named after the rugged blue limestone that lines its bed at its origin in Virginia. The park begins approximately 5 miles south of the New River Gorge National River and is managed by the same park staff. The Bluestone offers hiking, biking, hunting, fishing and camping, and bobcats, otters, bears and a variety of birds thrive in the wild area. Visitors can explore a 10.5-mile trail between the adjacent Bluestone and Pipestem Resort State Parks to enjoy portions of the river. Visitors can also see more of the river by riding an aerial tramway in Pipestem State Park.

• NPCA at Work Proposed Lone Star Coastal National Recreation Area The Lone Star Coastal National Recreation Area would include sites spanning four coastal counties: Matagorda, Brazoria, Galveston, and Jefferson. This region boasts natural areas, outdoor recreation opportunities, and historical sites. The proposed area would be built around a core of existing sites through coordinated management by public, private, and nonprofit landowners.
• NPCA at Work Honoring Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley The tragic death of Emmett Till and the strength and resolve of his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, catalyzed the modern civil rights movement. A national park site will ensure that their story is never forgotten.
• Molly Galvin Former Regional Director of Development Molly Galvin is the Regional Director of Development for the Northeast. She is based in New York City. Molly connects National Parks Conservation Association's most generous supporters with our advocacy and activities to protect our national parks.
• Staff Katherine DeGroff Associate Editor Katherine works out of the Washington, D.C., office as associate editor of National Parks magazine. Before joining NPCA, Katherine monitored easements at land trusts in Virginia and New Mexico, encouraged bear-aware behavior at Grand Teton National Park, and served as a naturalist for a small environmental education organization in the heart of the Colorado Rockies.
• Park Blue Ridge Parkway Extending more than 450 miles between Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee, the Blue Ridge Parkway is a trip through the history of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the people who have lived here for hundreds of years. This meandering road ties together diverse landscapes and conserves architecture, industry and cultural traditions associated with the mountain communities of southern Appalachia. Visitors can while away an afternoon listening to traditional music at the Blue Ridge Music Center, learn about the life of early settlers at Mabry Mill, or peruse traditional arts and crafts at the Folk Art Center, among other adventures.
• NPCA at Work Protect Biscayne from Nuclear Expansion Plans to expand Turkey Point by adding two new nuclear units would make Turkey Point one of the largest nuclear power facilities in the country, in an area that is ground zero for sea level rise. The proposed expansion threatens our national parks, endangered wildlife, Everglades restoration, and the health of park water resources.
