The Texas office of the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) is looking for college age individuals and young professionals in the greater Austin area to join our year long advocacy program July 1 2021 - June 2022.
Since 2016 the Texas office of NPCA has been engaging youth and young adults to connect with our public lands and advocate for our treasured places. Over the years, our Young Leaders Advocacy Council has volunteered at the national parks, educated their community on local issues and lobbied for our parks at our nation’s Capital.
With over 400 sites, our national parks tell stories that connect us to the land and with one another, however, they face threats every day from lack of funding to nearby damaging development. By engaging the next generation of park diverse advocates, we hope you will feel empowered to speak up for our treasured places.
Deadline to apply was June 13th. For more information about the program, please contact Chloe Crumley at email@example.com
In the program you will have to opportunity to:
Learn about the national parks, NPCA and how you can advocate for issues important to you;
Attend monthly meetings with speakers on specialty issues impacting national parks such as policy, climate change, justice and equity and cultural resources;
Join us at community engagement events at Texas national parks like the San Antonio Missions NHP, Big Thicket National Preserve and Amistad National Recreation Area;
Develop advocacy skills to speak up for local and national issues with elected officials;
Share and amplify your talent to educate, engage and empower people and your community;
Have fun with a new group of people in social outings (when it is safe, subject to COVID health precautions)!
Selected council members will serve for a 1-year, renewable term from July 1 to June 30. Monthly time commitment can vary based on regional travel opportunities, but typically participants can be expected to spend 5-10 hours a month between group calls, writing assignments and online learning. All members are expected to join as NPCA members ($25/year). Outside of basic local travel, all other associated costs such as meals, travel and lodging will be covered by NPCA. Deadline to apply is June 13th. For more information about the program, please contact Chloe Crumley at firstname.lastname@example.org
