Statement By Christine Goepfert
“Despite the eDNA test results released today regarding Asian carp in the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers, the recent capture of three live Asian carp in Pool 6 near Winona in February and several other catches last year make clear this invasive species is still an urgent threat to Minnesota’s waterways. We are glad that the agencies that released this study still urge immediate action in the fight against Asian carp.
“Today’s test results are good news, but we must remain vigilant in preparing for an Asian carp invasion. The results don’t change the fact that we have no time to waste and action is needed now before Asian carp swim further north into our Minnesota waters.
“We need Gov. Dayton, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, our elected state and federal leaders, and all users of the locks and rivers to work together toward a solution to protect all of Minnesota’s waters. Today’s results only tell us it’s not too late to protect our precious natural resources and Minnesota’s proud outdoor heritage.”
