In It Together - Protecting the Everglades and Florida Bay

Description:

This presentation at St. Thomas University will explore innovative means of protecting and managing the "commons," specifically Florida Bay and the Everglades. Featured speaker superintendent of Everglades National Park Dan Kimball will discuss park management, federal laws, public participation and efforts to incorporate the values of individuals who understand the ecosystems into park plans. Kimball will be joined by Jason Bennis, marine policy manager of the National Parks Conservation Association, Sun Coast Regional Office. Bennis is responsible for monitoring and analyzing management plans and policies relating to Florida Bay/Everglades, Biscayne, Virgin Islands and Dry Tortugas national parks. Recreational angler and president of RS Environmental Consulting Rainer Schael adds another dimension to the discussion; he is experienced in wetland mitigation and permitting, and endangered species permitting.

If you are a lawyer, 2 CLE credits approved.  But this is open to non-lawyers, members of the public, and any one interested in parks. Spnsored by the Center for Earth Jurisprudence.

Relevant details below:

  • Take I-95 to SR 826 West (Palmetto Expressway).
  • Go westbound on SR-826 to the Northwest 37 th Avenue exit and proceed to Northwest 37 th Avenue .
  • At the Northwest 37 th Avenue traffic light, make a left turn. The university entrance is 1/8 of a mile ahead on your left.
  • When you get to the entrance, turn  into the lane next to the guard house and tell them you are attending the event, they will let you through the gate direct you to the law school and parking.
